Expensive art shopping...

...has anyone noticed the ridiculous spending spree that's been going on lately at art auctions? first picasso's piece goes for about a $100M, then these two pieces sell for about double the estimated amount? I admit I don't know much about the art auction market --- is this is just due to a seasonal pickup in the market or a new interest among a group of people to invest in blue chip art..anyone...?
