bubble..dvd killed the big screen?

..i remember in business school we did a case on the film industry and all of its many many idesyncracies..there were just some things that seemed to be set rules - BUBBLE is breaking those rules and getting a whole lots of attention for it...who's behind all this uproar? mark cuban..(let's hope this does bette than THE BENEFACTOR!)

...to an industry outside, it's pretty interesting what is being done here...now that we all know about Bubble, let's see how the good the film really is!

..pretty uncool day..art anyone?

nothing cool or intersting happening today - in Canada there was an election and we're now a conservative country! ..when you thought it couldn't get any worse.

..some art links since there is ALWAYS art to view, even on the un-coolest days..

parastou foruhar - she's Iranian (like yours truly :) - take a close look at her works - they're not what they really seem.

lollipop...metro pop

...Mark Jenkins' latest project in DC - reminds me somewhat of the Christo projects (hope that's not insulting)...anyway, it looks really cool and makes for a very amusing use of parking meters...

also, check out his last project,

RFI..WHO?

RFID - a bit scary and very much a sign of things to come (thought about this the other morning when I fiddled around with my key to close my front door - we don't need keys to get into our doors anymore..why do we really need them for our houses?) - anyway, I digress..do-it-yourself RFID tags!? : / apparently some engineers are planting these chips under their skin to get into their computers and..get into their cars more easily!! it's on textually.org

I like their examples of other uses for the technology - Bar Soba in Glasgow: get injected with the chip and don't worry about carrying your wallet! all the fun details on this page.

...more about stuff..

..interesting article about consumers wanting professional-grade experiences (speaking of wanting STUFF!!) into their own home..I personally like the home elevator...

www.trendwatching.com/newsletter/newsletter.html

...catalogs..

..remember those? the ones that came in the mail? some still do..like ikea's..I remember my roommates actually buying things from the JCREW catalog.. then there are the more sublte ones we PAY to look through..FHM, Maxim, Details..stuff. they provide some content so we buy it, and market everything they can shamelessly through "advertorials" ..I'm in marketing and I'm getting tired of this!

..but I want to talk about another kind of catalog..don't get me wrong..I like blogs that show the latest, coolest things happening around the world (like arts, cool ideas..) that's part of the reason I have mine! but..some are starting to feel like full catalogs..I won't name names..ok, coolhunter to name one....are we all getting too consumed with STUFF??

not that I'm nagging..

live.com...umm

...did anyone else miss the point of live.com, because I certainly could not figure out where the value lies in this site..I mean, I've heard all the buzz and know it's supposed to revolutionize things..but really... is this, as it stands now, just a fancy version of your Favorites tab? anyone?...anyone?...

ipod films..

..a new film festival or competition seems to pop up daily now around the world - it's a good thing -- giving new talent to show their stuff. this is probably where the future of podcasting is -
THE FLUX is putting together their own iPod video film festival.

check it out!

...vroom..

no, this site's not changing to a car blog..

good stuff
..again...pretty difficult to make break through ads over and over again..
honda's new ad is a MUST SEE...so go see it.

geely..and much much more..

..everyone probably heard about the momentous launch of the Geely -- people are freaking out about this, well let's face it, dinky little car because they know it's only the start of a whole new game. after seeing this, I looked around a bit to see what other cars our chinese friends have to offer..surely their manufacturing mite must have produced more than just this little sedan..I found the fuqi SUV's..shown on this site for a cool..$17,300?? I'd be terrified too if I were in Detroit these days..

once again, US industry is so caught up in their own game they don't see that it's changed until they're the ones looking in from the outside.

]--- architecture ---[

...awesome design - of course - in Japan. found it on mocoloco through psfk..the architect -- toyo ito who's done a lot of cool stuff - lately, he seems to like playing with windows..

could someone tell me why japanese design has always been so amazing? is it the water?

...gadgets gadgets gadgets...

...enough with the gadgets already..how many lists of THE MUST HAVE gadgets of the year do we need, and how many different gadgets do I need every January? I say go to a stationary store, look at the notebooks they have to offer, pick one you like and get on with your life. I stopped fiddling with my palm a while ago and went to a basic notebook...I think people forget the simplicity of such things...

let's face it, maybe technology will NOT make things better...or easier...or faster..

biz..where's that #*@% $20 bill!

...because it's not enough that people want to show the world every detail of their lives on blogs, now you can follow the path of..a Dollar bill around the country, or the world for that matter! I saw www.whereswilly.com written on a $20 bill recently so I took a look.. the site will tell you when the bill was created, where it's been and lots of other things! there is one site for US bills and one for Canadian ones...is this really necessary in life? no not really, but neither are a lot of things in life. some poeple have written novellas about their bills :/

The site even gives you a speed of travel for each bill! I don't know how popular the service is but I know that their marketing is pretty easy..

art..

..this one happened a looooong time ago but I wanted to show it - in november (I said a long time ago) in a gallery in chelsea, a group of artists named Geitlin and a few other artists started Tantamounter 24/7 - they describe the project as "...a huge xerox copy machine, only bigger, more complex and more clever" - a really cool idea.

..you have to admire their dedication - 6 people in a box for a week - check it out for yourself..

(ny times article on the exhibit)

What is it with everyone lately that makes us want OUR version of everything that's out there?

radio -- take three?

..motorola will offer what they call a radio service, iradio soon - they call it radio, but it's not really radio -- it's a pretty direct hit at iPod...plug your phone into your computer, download songs from stations and listen. I don't know how good their music content will be (surprise surprise, U2 have signed on) and how easy it will be to use - also, I assume you get random songs so the control that iPod gives you is not there. If it's easy to use and has good music, it sounds pretty cool..

anyone know more about this service?

This buddhist temple is designed by Thomas Heatherwick , a Young British designer . when asked how he came up with the idea for the shape ( interestin answer ) he said " I was working very physically on large lumps of clay. It was cohesive but somehow ugly. Then there was a moment when I suddenly realized that this actually looked like fabric. This synced with the garments the priest often wears, which are awesome in the forms that they make by themselves.About the same time someone said: “Did you know the Buddha sits on fabric, on a cushion?” which seemed like a good fortune within the design process, but it was not to simulate anything."
I like how he sorta combines architecture, design n art to create these objects . He has done some realli interestin stuff . I like i like .

archi..net

archinet => really good site - take a look! you don't have to be an architect (I'm not) or LOVE architecture to appreciate it..

...design

...walking around in vancover recently in usual december downpour, I looked around and thought about something - umbrellas have been pretty much the same since they were invented. you hear about even the next gen pogo sticks but the umbrella seems to just go on being the same..well maybe not...andy wana from australia and his award-winning design could be the next generation. concept's based on a blooming flower - the canopy's double-vented so it doesn't make u look like a fool in strong wind, and it opens away from you so all the moving parts (including water) are not coming towards you..

calatrava...

....toronto..not known in any circles for its architectural beauty does actually have some pretty cool buildings in some areas..when you search for it

..BCE place in the financial district (right) - for those of you work there and surely never think about who built this crazy structure..here is some info to consider on your power lunch.

it's spanish architect santiago calatrava and his buildings are out of this world..from athens to zurich and new york to bilbao - he builds the most amazing and dramatic structures..

take a look at what else he's done..

..more to come on other toronto building worth a second look..

...big apple..

..a bit late to post this one but definitely worth mentioning - new york magazine's 123 reasons to love new york was a really amusing list - some of my favorites..#1,2 and 104..

if you can, go to a magazine shop and read it (do it...take a break from your computer)...if you can't find it go here...enjoy!!

Sunday, January 01, 2006

this is an interestin site . it just makes fun of " bad design " realli like the conceptual poster section (they're angry) .

www.baddesignkills.com . enjoy !

T's..

T-shirts that is... should I come out with "15-seconds" Tshirts???!! It's the in thing these days..

practically every blog sells their own T's, making me wonder if the shirts (on top of the millions of advertising dollars of course) are the main way they can generate some revenues..

really, has anyone sold TONS of shirts on their blog? please let me know and I'll make sure to go to Kensington to put in my order.

..i need a logo..

...this took place a while ago but it's worth showing - john galliano whose shows are usually SO over the top they're just amusing, has a really cool and basic concept behind his 2006 cutoure show: to appreciate beauty in everyone..

style.com covers the show with a backstage video. check it out - you don't have to be in this industry to appreciate creativity.
